Unbeaten Record Goes

Unbeaten in pre-season games and in their first two Premier Reserve league fixtures, the young Dons lost that record in a 1-0 defeat against Celtic last Saturday.

The Parkhead setback was disappointing, particularly as the Pittodrie side had chances to escape with a point, even after Andy Gibson, who has been a prolific scorer this season, had been sent off in 55 minutes following his second booking for persistent fouling.

A draw would have been a very creditable result in the circumstances. Apart from the numerical superiority Celtic enjoyed for almost half the game, their team included quite a collection of high-priced talent in Joe Miller, John Hewitt, "Jackie" Dziekanowski, Martin Hayes and Andy Walker, while the only players with significant first-team experience in the visiting side were Michael Watt and Paul Mason, and the latter was not fully tuned-up after his recent unsigned spell.

It was a cross from former Don, Hewitt and a header from Walker which produced a top quality deciding goal for Celtic in the first half. Although disappointed with the result, coach Willie Miller was reasonably happy with the overall performance of the team with recent signing Gary Smith making satisfactory progress as he settles into the central defence.

"Recent defensive problems appear to be solved with the back four playing much better," said Willie "although we were a little inexperienced in midfield against opposition of that calibre."
