Motherwell 1 - 2 Aberdeen

HT Score: Motherwell 0 - 0 Aberdeen

Div 1 (Old)
Motherwell scorers: Stewart
Aberdeen scorers: Ambler, Ambler.

11/11/1916 | KO:

Aberdeen snatched the points in the closing minutes of the game at Motherwell, and the home club were unlucky not to draw. There was no scoring in the first half. Shortly after the interval Ambler put Aberdeen on up, and from then on the Motherwell team played well, Reid equalising fifteen minutes from time. It was a toss up which side would win after that, and the lucky hit fell to Aberdeen, Ambler scoring just before the whistle sounded.

Aberdeen thoroughly deserved their win over Motherwell. They put up a splendid fight all through, and showed a robustness that had been absent from their play for some time. Anderson, their goalkeeper, had a good deal of work, but he did it well, and saved his side repeatedly. The backs and half-backs were reliable, but it was in the forward line that the great improvement was shown. They moved well together, although a strong wind tended to spoil combination. There was no scoring in the first half, but shortly after the interval Ambler opened Aberdeen's account. Motherwell equalised immediately after, Stewart scoring in a scrimmage. If play was fast before, it was faster now. Both sides were keen on getting the winning point, and Aberdeen secured it. In the last minute Ambler scored with a soft shot.
