Aberdeen 1 - 1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock scarcely deserved to share the points at Aberdeen. Up to the interval they played well, and were worthy of the lead MacPhail secured for them after five minutes' play, but in the second half were not oftener than twice really dangerous, and had only the miserable finishing of the home forwards to thank for being on level terms at the end. Cail equalised for Aberdeen ten minutes after resuming, and despite brilliant work at half by Sergeant Jackson, late of Middlesbrough, and McLachlan, a former Aberdeen player north on furlough, the forwards could make no further progress, though W. Wylie had hard lines with a terrific shot which struck the bar. The spectators numbered about 4000.

Up to half-time on Saturday Kilmarnock looked like taking two points home with them from Pittodrie. The defence work well, and had a good grip of the home attack, and their forwards played with method and speed. 5 minutes after the games started, Smith netted as soft and somewhat lucky goal, and this lead Kilmarnock still held at half-time.

After the resumption, Killie were really quite a different side. They were quite unable to make any headway against the local defence, and Anderson had only to handle two or three times. Sargent Jackson, late of Middlesbrough, and McLauchlan, who is north on furlough, had a big say in this mastering of the Ayshire attack. They were brilliant. Jackson's passes along the carpet were a treat. Cail equalised in 10 minutes, and the scoring finished with that. Willie Wylie beat dormant in the closing minutes with a shot which only the bar saved. Kilmarnock were glad to get rid of the leather anyhow for the greater part of this period, and if they were lucky they could at the same time plead that the Aberdeen attack did not deserve to get the lead which their rear guard merited. As a line they were at sixes and sevens. Thomson was of no use at centre. Perhaps he had an off-day. Wylie, Cail, and ambler were the pick, but each made sad finishing. Killie's defence against a more virile attack, would not have come so well out of the ordeal. Fulton and Smith were the best wing.
