Dundee 1 - 1 Aberdeen

HT Score: Dundee 0 - 1 Aberdeen

Div 1 (Old)
Dundee scorers: Steven
Aberdeen scorers: Brewster.

09/09/1916 | KO:

Dundee had Aberdeen as visitors at Dens, Park, before an attendance numbering between 8000 and 9000. Dundee had the major portion of the play in the opening stages, but they found the Aberdeen defence, ably backed up by Brewster, altogether too strong for them. In their raids on Bower's charge the visitors always gave the impression of being the more dangerous, but the attacking force was generally subservient to the defenders. Brewster, however, succeeded in beating Bower with a header from a corner kick. The Dens Park team monopolised play to a considerable extent in the second portion, but their shooting was not very effective; indeed, the only decent try - a great drive from Steven - allowed them to divide the points.

The meeting of a Aberdeen and Dundee at Dens Park was favored by brilliant weather, and attracted a crowd of about 7000 spectators. Both defenses were in good form, and the result was a drawn battle of one goal each. Dundee were the first to attack, but Troup shot over the bar. Aberdeen raided after some give and take play, but did no damage. Dundee had another turn, and made progress by smart combination, but failed at close quarters. After about half an hour's play Brewster scored for Aberdeen. Bower touched the ball with his hands but could not stop it. Aberdeen had the better of matters until the interval, and Cumming almost succeeded in adding to their score.

Shortly after the resumption Aberdeen, who were now facing the sun, lost their lead. Dundee forwards quickly got into range, and Steven equalised with a hard low shot from the penalty line, Anderson having no chance to save. For some time Dundee kept up the pressure, but could not get through. Aberdeen transfer of play, but were unable to penetrate the Dundonian defence. Give and take play followed. Two wards to close Dundee made a strong effort to get ahead. Herron came in from the wing and had a shot, but Anderson was in his place and averted danger. The game throughout was keenly contested.
