Aberdeen 'A' Surprised By Banff-MacDuff United

The uncertainties of football were emphasised at Pittodrie last night, when Aberdeen A, the leaders in the Aberdeen and District League competition, dropped their first point, Banff- Macduff United, who had not previously won a point, being equal to sharing a draw of one goal each. The performance reflected much credit on the visitors, who had the assistance of no fewer than five Aberdeen juniors?four from the Hall, Russel's club.
On play Aberdeen A" should have won with something in hand, but the opposition never "lay down," and defending stubbornly they lost few opportunities of making ground. The football was always of a poor class that of the more experienced Aberdeen "A" team being very disappointing. At times the individual effort was good, but it was overdone, and with little combination and indifferent finishing it was not surprising that time wore on and a draw was in sight, the sympathies of the bulk of the small spectatorate of home supporters turned in favour of the visitors.
Lamb, who kept goal for the visitors, did some good work before Mackie opened the scoring in the first half, but it was not long until Gauld obtained the equaliser. There was no more scoring, and in the second half Lamb again distinguished himself, and, aided by some good fortune, kept his goal intact, although on one occasion Stevenson hit the crossbar. The Banff-Macduff forwards often raided the home territory, but they did not seriously trouble Blackwell. While much of the credit for the result was due to Lamb, he got great assistance from his backs. Kynoch got through a lot of good work at cerntre-half, and forward those who took the eye most were Mark, Gauld, and Paterson. On the Aberdeen side the outstanding players were Smith, McBoyle, McLeod, and Mackie.
