Aberdeen 2 - 1 Hibernian

For a variety of reasons the Dons' results in the Premier Reserve League have been inconsistent this season, as evidenced by the 2-1 home defeat by Hibs 10 days ago. It was a disjointed affair with a good many stoppages including a penalty for each side. The Edinburgh side took the lead after half-an-hour when Robert McRobb and Gregg Watson went into a tackle together and were ruled to have fouled Lennon. The penalty kick was converted by McBride who, along with Donald was a troublesome opponent. It was just over an hour before the equaliser came, this time Stevie Gray making good use of the penalty award when Andy McLeod was brought down as he raced onto a superb through ball from the subsequent scorer. The game was a frustrating one for Aberdeen who enjoyed a good deal of possession play and were frequently pushing forward but could not round-off the superior approach play. Gray missed a superb scoring chance early on when scooped a McLeod pass over the bar. Dons could and should have been in the lead and just when a respectable draw was one the cards Hibs confirmed their greater threat on the break with a late winner by Fellinger. "We certainly didn't play well," said coach Teddy Scott. "We expect to beat teams like Hibs because their Reserve team is not especially strong while, on paper, we had a good team out ourselves. The good thing about it was that Stevie Gray proved that he is getting his form back after his injury with an excellent second half.? "The most disappointing aspect from our point of view was our finishing. Andy McLeod missed a chance or two and the fact that I replaced both of our strikers in the second half speaks for itself." McLeod is going through a spell of reduced confidence but Scott stressed: "All strikers go through spells like this. He has no cause for concern. Andy has the ability come through it OK."
