McGeogh Stars For Wee Dons

It is good to get back in the swing of things with the pitches soft again. It is a relief for the players to get back into the real action again. It can be frustrating for the players to train hard all week and when Friday comes along, they are confronted with the news that the game is off.
It was good at Pittodrie last Thursday morning when every¬body was talking about the first teams cup victory over Ayr United, only the Reserves were in for training but we still had a few points to discuss, some of which were:- Stevie Archibald's goal from the edge of the box, Drew Jarvie's work rate etc., (I had better stop in case I give away useful information to today's opposition).
Our Reserve team got back into action last Saturday and played quite well considering the long lay off and the heavy conditions, plus the fact that St. Mirren Reserves have quite a few useful players in their ranks. Incidentally that is the first point they have ever taken from us at Pittodrie. Another first at Pittodrie was the fact that the linesmen in this game came from outside Aberdeen. The reason could have been with the Aberdeenshire Cup ties being played on Saturday, all the local lads were being used for these games.
Speaking of Referees' and football, our under 16 boys beat a Referees Select by six goals to nil on our all-weather pitch. We should have played Hearts Reserves at Tynecastle last night, but apparently their pitch is unplayable. This was to be our Saturday fixture brought forward as Saturday is the Club's Annual Dinner and Dance, it would have meant we would have been late on getting home to it. We were lucky enough to get a game fixed up against Partick Reserves at Firhill tonight, one thing is sure we will get a hard game, but a good result for us will help to make the return trip north an enjoyable one.
