Aberdeen 2 - 1 St. Mirren

Aberdeen had a hard fight to get points at the expense of St Mirren, but were quite worth their 2-1 win. In the first half a storm of wind and rain prevailed, Although having the advantage of the gale, the Saints were well tested, and their own attack, playing clever but quite wrong kind of football for such conditions, was kept out until five minutes from the interval, when Phillips, their centre, converted a cross from Brown, outside left. Play was faster in the second half, the rain going off and the wind falling appreciably. The Saints defended with might and main, and Hillcoat kept his charge intact for almost half-an-hour. Archibald and W. Wylie scored for Aberdeen, whose outside left Cumming, late of Manchester City, made a successful debut. Aberdeen's halves had a big say in the win. Attendance 2000.

Aberdeen continued their victorious career by beating Saint Mirren at Pittodrie. Cumming, the former Manchester City player, was included in the team at outside right, and gave a good display. Saints had Philip, late of Sutherland, at centre, and he, with Brown and White, was the pick of the attack. The weather was most unfavorable in the first half, and playing in the wind and rain, the teams had not an enviable task. In the second period play was faster, the rain going off and the windfall and. About 2000 spectators were present.

Aberdeen opened against the wind, and quickly made their way into Saint Mirren territory, where they remained for some time. Walker tried a long shot, but the ball went over the bar. Maine had a try a few minutes later, shooting into Hillcoat's hands. An offside decision against Aberdeen let Saint Mirren into range. Brown crossed nicely, but Hume cleared. Aberdeen again assumed the offensive, and Hillcoat had to throw out. White tested Anderson, who saved neatly. Period of pressure by Aberdeen was followed by end-to-end play. In an attack by Saint Mirren, Chatwin missed the ball, and Brown shot, but Anderson saved. Aberdeen once more invaded, but without result. Play was being conducted on fairly equal lines. Four minutes from time, Chatwin missed in an attack by Saint Mirren, and Phillip scored from a pass by Brown.

On the resumption Aberdeen made the pace, but found their opponents on the alert. Archibald was sprinting in upon the quote with the ball at his toe when he was brought up for offside. Play for some time was at the Saint Mirren end, Aberdeen being eager for a goal. Brewster had a long-range effort, which just missed the bar. The Saints attempted to make progress, but the referee gave an offside award against them. The home men again got on the attack, but were repelled. White had a clear field for Saint Mirren, and drove for goal, but Anderson cleared in fine style. Play ruled for some time in favour of Aberdeen, and Saint Mirren defence got little rest. Hillcoat was always on the sport. Relief came to Saint Mirren, who forced a fruitless corner. J. Wyllie had a fine shot, but Hillcoat's saved, the ball, however, striking the crossbar. After some give-and-take play Main carried the ball through and shot. The code saved, but Archibald got possession and equalised with a fast shot. Saint Mirren got no advantage from a corner. Near the finish Archibald, cleverly through the opposition, and passed to W. Wylie, who placed Aberdeen on the lead with a high-speed shot.

Aberdeen were worth the points. They did a lot of pressing against the gale, and were distinctly top-dog after turning.
