THE YOUNG DONS played well without getting a break against Dundee United A at Tannadice in midweek when they went down 1-0. The home side had far more experienced players in their ranks but it is fair to say that the Pittodrie lads created more chances although they failed to take even one. Willie Miller, working hard as attack leader, had particular cruel luck, hitting the bar and then the post with keeper Sandy Davie beaten.
With George Murray on first-team duty, Ian Hair was fielded at centre half. He did very well considering that it was the first time in his life he had played in that pos¬ition. He got valuable support from sweeper Chic McLelland, and right back Billy Williamson is coming back to his excellent form of a couple of seasons ago. Andy Geoghegan had some fine saves and Jim Smith looked far more at home at left back than he has done in the middle of the field. John Craig, who has vacated the No. 3 shirt, is, understandably, not finding it so easy to pick up the threads again as a link man.
Bobby Street was one of our hardest workers and, all in all, it was quite a good team performance. They certainly did not deserve to be beaten and I was looking for the Young Dons to get back on the rails last night against Dundee A.
