Campbell Winner For Young Dons
We travelled to Paisley and although not playing at our best we had a 2-1 win, with goals scored by Davie Robb and George Campbell. A high wind spoiled the game and the players found ball control difficult on a hard bumpy pitch. Jim Leighton was again in our goal and did very well. We also had Alec Grant our provisional signing from Lanark United playing on the right wing. He had a good game and showed a lot of promise.
Doug Rougvie taking Neil Cooper's place as sweeper had the misfortune to head past his own goalkeeper for the Saints first goal. Dougie was switched to Right Back at the interval and he looked a lot happier in that position. Bobby Glennie who replaced Dougie as sweeper had an excellent game in both positions.
Our midfield of Gibson, Scott and Jarvie made little contribution to the game and it was left to big Davie Robb to cause trouble to the St. Mirren defence. George Campbell's contribution was his goal (and it was a good one). The wee fella is going through a bad spell in the meantime, but he'll get over it and turn on the magic once again. Derek Fraser our quiet man at left back had a steady game and was our best player.
Owing to a misunderstanding John Reilly failed to turn up, and Ian Gibson who had a slight injury had to play. Ian was later replaced by Dougie Brown.
Our team was: Leighton, Glennie, Fraser, Gibson, McLeish, Rougvie, Grant Scott, Robb, Jarvie, Campbell. The Subs were: Brown and Rodgers.
