With the Cup safely handed over Dons signed off with goals in the second half by Paul Wright and Willie Falconer after Bankies had led 1-0 at half time. "They could have been two or three goals clear by the break," admitted coach Teddy Scott. They had their chances but missed them and allowed us to stay in the game. The turning point for us was 20 minutes from the end when we switched Willie Falconeer from defence to a forward role and he scored the winner for us.
"It crowned an excellent season for him dating back to when we tried him out as a central defender."
Selbie was back after completing his 'farm out' season with Cove Rangers and proved that the experience has done him no harm at all. Also back from Cove is Kelvin McCombie who played in the 0-0 draw at Clydebank. Also in that team was David Lawrie, making his return to competitive action for the first time since his lengthy injury lay-off. That team was: Lawrie; McRobb, I. Robertson, Stark, Riddell, Falconer, Porteous, McCombie, Wright, Connor, Dodds. Subs: Gardner, Harvie. The inclusion of experienced players and the changes throughout the line-up did not help the balance of the side in a low-key performance which immediately followed the final clinching of the Championship. Falconer was again an outstanding performer using his height and power up front in addition to carrying out his defensive duties. He had three headers which might have been goals, two slamming against the bar and the other forcing a great save from the 'keeper.
"It became the type of game where nobody was going to score," said coach Scott. Lawrie was not put under much pressure on his reappearance but did everything he had to do without any problems.
