Young Dons Might Have Won

THE "cease fire" must have come as a welcome signal to a breathless Aberdeen defence at Perth, where the young Dons' early fluency and fine positional sense brought them a 2-1 lead at the interval.

The Pittodrie colts almost returned home with full points, which would have been an injustice to the slower moving but much more punchful St Johnstone.
With four minutes to go and his side holding on to their single-goal margin McKeown, scenting danger from the home left, elected to allow Curran to clear. This lost the Pittodrie side a point, as the ball sailed under Curran's bar with the 'keeper out of position.
Before the final whistle the Dons' rearguard took a battering, but came through because Curran and Thomson - the most dominating middleman afield - were more resolute than their full backs.
The big personality of a hard game was undoubtedly Tommy Pearson.
