Blackwell to Rescue of Aberdeen A.
The reserve teams of Aberdeen and Rangers will have to meet again before it is decided which will oppose Kilmarnock A in the final for the Scottish Second XI. Cup. Twelve thousand spectators at Pittodrie saw the teams divide four goals in what was a dour but not inspiring game. Aberdeen took the lead mid-way through the first half when Donald netted from McLeod's pass, but Rangers equalised through Conlin before the interval. In the second half Rangers were the more methodical side, but both teams lost chances. Nicholson gave the Rangers the lead, and they looked like retaining it until Aberdeen were awarded a penalty kick and Merrie equalised from the spot. The feature of the game was the clever goalkeeping of Blackwell, who may be said to have saved his side from defeat.Source: Press & Journal, 7th April 1930
