Win For Aberdeen 'A'

With a victory by two goals to none over Falkirk A at Pittodrie Park on Saturday, the Aberdeen reserves avenged their defeat at Brockville, the previous week. The small attendance of 2000 had little to enthuse in the way of methodical football, and both teams relied more or less on robust tactics. Aberdeen's opening advance with the aid of two free kicks was checked by strong tackling by the visiting backs, and for a long period was largely confined to Aberdeen territory. In two dangerous raids, McSevich saved well from Stoddart and Kennedy. Edward, who was making his first appearance this season, was the most clever Aberdeen attacker, but lost a splendid opportunity in banging a centre from Forbes high over the bar. After Forsyth had retrieved mistakes of two colleagues, the disjointed home forward line carried the ball into the Falkirk's penalty area. Forbes slipped it across, and Edwards tipped it into the net nine minutes from the interval.
Forbes and Love exchanged positions on resuming. Aberdeen, whose lead had been deserved on play now combined better, but dilatory shooting resulted in nothing coming from the continuous pressure on the Falkirk goal. Midway through the period Edward headed a second goal from a faulty clearance by Bradley, and minutes later sent in a couple of hard drives. Play became uninteresting towards the finish. After Dolphin had left the field injured, the first offside infringent was given against Edward, with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Aberdeen won their points by a much improved second half display, and Forsyth, McHale, and Moore were best in defence. Edward was the best forward, and initiated several clever movements, but he, like the others, was too prone to keep the ball in the air. Falkirk's play declined after the interval but the visitors were well served throughout by the two backs, and had two aggressive forwards in Kennedy and Scott.
