Aberdeen 7 - 0 Peterhead

Aberdeen ' 'A' found their shooting form against Peterhead Pittodrie Park, on Saturday in an Aberdeen and District League game. They defeated their northern rivals by 7 goals to 1. Paton must have disillusioned those who believed him to possess no shooting powers. He got three of the goals, and every one of them was a terrific first-timer. Although he did not get much the ball as he should, Berstad scored two, while Duncan and Main secured the others. The opening exchanges did not indicate such an overwhelming defeat of the Peterhead team. The large victory was due mostly to the opportunism and the steadying effect on the forward line of Paton. The little fellow had his knee badly wrenched about the close the game, and had to be assisted to the pavilion. Cunningham scarcely ever handled, for his backs were sound and seldom allowed the forwards to get into the vicinity of the goal. Davidson's best was displayed in the first half; he seemed to tire towards the close. As a destructive force, Pirie was effective, but he was constantly over-shooting his forwards. Dick was patchy, being good and mediocre in turns. In the forward line, if the other forwards had been as unselfish as Berstad and passed more often to him as he did to them, the score sheet would been fuller than it was. His first goal was probably the best in the match. Side on to the goal, he took a cross before it reached the ground with his left foot and gave Lawrie no chance. He ended one sparkling solo run, however, by shooting weakly into the goalkeeper's hands. Grant was getting every opportunity from Paton, and gave an excellent display. If he dropped his crosses nearer the front of the goal, however, he would be more effective. The right wing was not altogether on a par with the left, although it did some splendid work. Duncan's goal, scored with his head, was reminiscent of Andy Rankin at his best. Peterhead made their supreme effort in the second half, and their football at this period was really clever. Their forwards supplied some pretty touches, but as a penetrative force they were ineffective. The brothers Gray on the extreme wings were the best, with E. Gray a trifle the better. He was tricky, and kept Dick on tenterhooks. Their half-line could not cope with the Aberdeen forwards. The backs were over-worked, and at times not inclined to stand on ceremony. Lawrie had no chance with any of the goals.
