Debacle At Pittodrie

Aberdeen "A" had a picnic at Pittodrie on Saturday when they entertained Forres mechanics under Highland League auspices, and the 2000 spectators who viewed the farcical match saw more goals scored than has been the case since the memorable cup-tie game with Peterhead two years ago. At the end of the game the Highlanders were a leg-weary combine, and their defence had been pierced no fewer than nine times without reply.
In the first half Forres stuck the pace quite well and had hard lines in not opening their account on two occasions. A soft goal by Miller and another by Forbes represented Aberdeen's superiority at the interval but in the second period a different tale was told.
Aberdeen literally toyed with the opposition, and as the harassed Forres halves fell back on defensive work, the play of the forward line suffered, with the result that Cunningham's charge was seldom visited. But for the grand display of Mutch in the visiting goal, Forres would have had even a bigger pill of defeat to swallow, the keeper saved his charge time and again when all seemed lost. He had little or no chance with any of the shots that beat him, and well sustained his reputation as a good custodian.
Apart from the two backs, the centre-half, and the outside right, the Forres team gave a very mediocre display. Criticism of the Aberdeen players is needless in view of the poor opposition with which they had to contend. Main (2), Miller (2), Pirie (2), Bruce, Forbes and Grant were the scorers.
