Aberdeen Reserves Unlucky

Aberdeen "A" went down to Partick Thistle "A" in their Scottish Alliance match at Pittodrie on Saturday simply because they let slip numerous chances of scoring. Partick possessed a smart side, but did not deserve to win on the run of play. Their success came through seizing the opportunities that presented themselves. The conditions under which the game was played were ideal. The sun shone throughout and greatly increased the enjoyment of the 5000 spectators present. Aberdeen tried out Dick, who appeared to have sufficiently recovered to take the field. He was the victim of a fairly obvious foul in the middle of the first half, and went off limping badly. He did not resume. Dinnie was the busier custodian in the first half, but Cunningham had the most ticklish shots to deal with. The wing men were the outstanding figures in the home attack, while Forbes plied his wings well, and was quick in snapping up crosses. In the rear, no defender outshone D. Bruce. Torbet, Partick's recent capture, fared very well at outside left, and put in a deal of effective work. Armstrong fitted badly into the inside right berth on the home side, and became more useful when he fell back into Dick's place.
A bit of a scene marked the opening of the second half. Shouts of "Goal" went up when Dinnie let the ball slip and then regained hold of it. The referee blew his whistle for a goal, and then changed his decision. A spectator ran on to the field, and was reluctant to leave when ordered, and the referee had to speak to a policeman. Grant had some terrific shots in this half, but they were usually inches off their billet or Dinnie fastened on to them. Torbet gave Partick the lead, scoring from an acute angle after rounding two defenders. Although Aberdeen did the bulk of the attacking in this half, Partick increased their lead through Simpson. Dinnie had a lot to do, and was stopping well, but was poor in gathering. He let the ball slip from his hands once for Main to run in and score.
