Buckie Thistle and Aberdeen 'A' To Meet Again

Aberdeen "A" and Buckie Thistle, who met at Pittodrie on Saturday afternoon in the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Cup, have not yet decided which of them is to oppose Fraserburgh in the final stage of the competition. The breakdown in the weather resulted in an exceedingly poor attendance of about 2000 being present at the kick-off, but with a slight improvement in the weather the crowd at half-time numbered over 4000.
The home eleven opened well, and immediately invaded the visitors' quarters, where they were confidently met by the defenders. Nevertheless, five minutes from the kick-off Aberdeen, through Swan, took the lead. A few seconds later they were within an ace of doubling their score through Moir. But the visitors were not long in coming round, and gave almost as good as they got, and Nicol and Stewart both essayed to score. Each side in turn besieged the other's goal, and both defences were given a warm time. Both forward lines were ineffective against the defences, which proved too strong for the front ranks. Aberdeen crossed over leading by the only goal, and an evenly matched first half was brought to a close.
As in the first half, so in the second. Aberdeen was seen to lead off the attack, and after a fine effort by Moir, which was splendidly saved by Wood, the homesters took the lead. Moir secured this point as a result of a cross from Grant. The visitors, now two down, were spurred to greater effort, and many attempts to cause the Aberdeen goal to fall were made. Ultimately Lawrie's charge was broken into through that player being unable to intercept a cross from the Buckie right, and which was converted by Newlands. The game, which, to this stage had been interesting, but without incident, now became intensely exciting, as the visitors did all they possibly could secure the equalising goal. At last, tired by their unfruitful efforts, they had to retire into their own territory, where Wood was often tested, but proved himself a worthy custodian. The men from the north were not content to remain on the defensive, and McCombie cleared his lines and gave Kinghorn an opportunity to slip away. He carried the ball well down, and passed to Smith, who, giving Lawrie no chance, brought his side on an equal footing with their opponents. The last seven minutes of the game saw the visitors on the defensive, doing anything and everything to keep the home team from drawing ahead. The replay will take place at Buckie on February 17.
