Points For Pittodrie Reserves

Aberdeen A defeated Airdrie A at Pittodrie by a solitary goal cleverly scored by Moir, in a game in which the play never really reached a high standard. The visitors' downfall was entirely due to their attack playing far too closely together, due probably to the fact that the Broomfield pitch is narrow. In the first half Howieson was specially prominent with his clever tackling, and his attention to Gallacher. It was principally from these players that the home defence had anything to fear, the others being well held. From a foul kick, taken A. Robertson, the ball struck an opponent and rebounded to Moir's foot, and without hesitation he netted. The referee's whistle sounded as the leather landed in the net, Moir being given offside. Frequent warnings to visiting players for unfair tactics were given Mr P. Craigmyle, who promptly stopped any trouble. Neither side had managed to score at the interval.
The Pittodrie team had the bulk of the pressure in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, and only Dempster in goal prevented any scoring. But his charge fell at the end of that period, Moir, meeting a cross from Connon first time, driving hard into the net. Connon thereafter gave the visiting defence something to think about with touch-line sparkles and dangerous crosses. Only weak finishing near goal deprived the homesters of a greater lead. Airdrie made great efforts to secure the equaliser in the last fifteen minutes of the game, but the Aberdeen defence predominated. Temper was prevalent amongst the players and Gallacher deliberately kicked McBoyle after the ball was cleared. Had the referee seen the incident the player might have got his marching orders. On the whole the homesters deserved the points.
Mutch, the British Legion player, shaped well in his initial senior trial. He was always keen, and with training should improve. Common and Moir and shone in attack. A. Robertson was prominent in the middle division, and the defence was safe and steady. Dempster, Howieson, Preston and Gallacher were the pick of the visitors' side.
