Cup-tie At Pittodrie

The attraction Pittodrie on Saturday was the meeting between the Aberdeen Reserves and the University in the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Cup competition, and the 6000 odd spectators who watched the game were amply repaid by its typical Cup-tie nature, and the many exciting and enlivening passages between the two teams.
The students were early dangerous, and a slip by McCombie let Wiseman through to test Sutherland. The keeper diverted the ball on to the upright, and Ness cleared with nothing spare. This was exciting enough, but there was more to follow. The students were easily the superior team in the early stages, and their first-time Cup-tie, football looked dangerous all the time. Mackie and Wilson raised the siege on several occasions, and the former had two great drives, which Mulligan, however, saved finely. Stalker and Allan were combining well on the University right, and it was from them that the bulk of the danger came. Disaster befell Aberdeen after about 25 minutes? play, when Ness was injured, and had to retire to the pavilion. McCombie, however buckled to his work like a hero, and it was due in great degree to his judgment and hefty punting that half-time arrived with the score blank.

Ness resumed in the second half, and the game ruled more even, Aberdeen giving as good as they got. Stalker was again prominent, and off a cross from the winger Lawrie headed what proved be the only goal of the match past Sutherland. From now to the end the Reserves made desperate efforts to get the equaliser, but nothing came amiss to the students' hefty defence, and the end arrived with the University worthy winners 1 goal to 0.
