Points For Reserve Team

At Aberdeen, before 6000 spectators, in a Scottish Alliance fixture. Aberdeen's new centre forward, Mackie, from Cumnock Juniors, was outstanding, scoring the only goal in the first half, and being seen to much advantage in the second with smart passing. Brown scored Aberdeen's other goal.

Aberdeen's two latest recruits - Mackie from Cumnock Juniors, and Brown from Tranent - turned out for the second XI. on Saturday in their Scottish Alliance match with Kilmarnock "A" at Pittodrie. Both gave a good account of themselves, scoring a goal apiece, and enabling their team to win by 2 goals to 0. In the first minute of the game Harvey had to run out to clear. After this the Aberdeen side took hold of the game, and during the first half the visitors scarcely had a look in. Yule was conspicuous with several good tries. Killie's goal ran miraculous escapes when Macdonald, Brown, and Wilson shot narrowly past in quick succession. Mackie was worrying the Killie defence to some tune, and was shadowed wherever he went. On one occasion he was all but through when Armour stopped his drive for goal. Cuthbertson broke away on his own, and beat three of the home defence but Ness running into goal blocked his shot after Harvey was beaten. A few minutes later Yule brought Armour to full length on the ground to save, and Wilson hit the foot of the upright with a terrific shot. Macdonald, with only the goalkeeper to beat, tipped the ball softly into the custodian's hands. Aberdeen's goal ran a narrow escape when Cook got going, but the experienced Aberdeen backs were an insurmountable obstacle in the path of the Killie forwards. Brown, on the home team's right, was showing up well, but his shooting lacked sting. It was from a lovely pass of his that Aberdeen's first goal came. He crossed into the goal mouth, and Mackie following up, rounded Fullarton and shot, the ball hitting the post and curling into the net.

Killie had the better of the opening exchanges in the second half. The home defence muddled matters and conceded a corner. The play that followed was tame, Killie maintaining pressure, and being unlucky in not getting the equaliser. Harvey had to fist four shots from the opposing forwards and was brought to his knees to save another. It was mainly due to his efforts and those of Hannah that the Aberdeen goal survived. Robertson relieved the pressure, and let Mackie away. He passed to Brown, who sent across the goalmouth with no one there to put the ball home. The Dons continued to press, and Brown with a raking shot from far out put Aberdeen two up. This further reverse roused the Klllie men to greater effort, but the end saw Aberdeen deserving winners.
