Aberdeen 2 - 3 Dundee

THE crowd of slightly over 12,000 - it looked larger - must have enjoyed the thrilling encounter between Aberdeen and Dundee at Pittodrie.
Dundee owed their 3-2 victory to the opportunism of Anderson, who scored twice when playing at outside right, and again when at centre. It was the Dons' first home defeat.
Fortune certainly smiled on the Dundonians. They were the inferior team, and no one would have grudged the Dons at least a share of the points.

The Dons were a goal down in twenty-five seconds. In three minutes they lost a second. What a staggering blow to their followers!
Aberdeen had themselves to blame for this state of affairs. They had not prepared themselves for these two lightning stabs by Anderson, a rover and a marksman if ever there was one.
Yet Aberdeen staged a tremendous recovery effort, and succeeded, through Pattillo, in drawing level before the interval. That great fight back put the Dons in the good graces of the crowd, who expected great things in the second period, but they were disappointed. The Dons continued to hammer the Dundee defence unmercifully, but they lacked inside forwards with th eability and guile to throw open the visiting defence. Instead, it was the Aberdeen defence which crumpled up at a critical stage. When Anderson got the winning goal twelve minutes from time the home rearguard was completely at sea.

SUCCESSFUL DEBUT

Johnstone could not be blamed for the defeat. Cooper opened none too promisingly, but improved as the game went on. Young McKenna created a good impression in his League debut at Pittodrie. Dunlop was again the outstanding man in the home defence. Russell was slow, but clever on the ball, while Taylor, although he revealed ability, is not properly tuned up yet.
Pattillo vied twih Anderson as the best forward on the field, but Green and Waldron failed to draw the opposing defence. Waldron, in particular, was too fond of the ball. It was surprising that more use was not made of Miller in the second half, while Munro had his best game for some time.
Dundee now have a lead of one pointt over Raith Rovers - the surprise team of the season, while Aberdeen and Dunfermline are three points behind.
