CALEDONIA TROPHY PLAN MAY BE ALTERED

Games at Beginning and End of Season Suggested A HINT by Mr C. B. Forbes, a member of the Aberdeen F.C. board of directors, that the Caledonia Trophy competition might be played on different lines next season will be welcomed in the Highland League area, especially after Saturday's return game at Elgin, when Aberdeen beat the Highland League Select 6-0. The idea is that the first game should take place early in the season and the second leg the end. The move would stimulate interest in the competition, with the Highland League fielding its strongest team. The legacy of a four-goal deficit from the first leg and a makeshift Select robbed the Elgin game of any excitement. Playing with team-work and precision, the Dons won as comfortably as the score suggests. The Select had their moments in attack, but most of their moves were either too slow or too obvious to make much impression on the Aberdeen defence. Pines and his inside forwards, McGurk and Baird, were poorly supported by Macdonald and Mackenzie on the wings, who held the ball too long. Mackinnon was the Select's best half, but Aberdeen were generally too fast for full backs Meldrum and Cosbie. Foes was a safe keeper and had no chance with any of the goals. Jackie Hather took the eye with his speedy bursts through the Highland detence. He scored two typical goals, after showing his speed, and made two others. The Dons' other marksmen were Glen, Yorston and Stenhouse. Their fifth goal cannoned off Crosbie after a try by Hather had been blocked by Foss.
