Dons cruise past Queen of the South

Aberdeen's SFA Youth Cup tie against Queen of the South finally went ahead this afternoon at Ochilview Park, Stenhousemuir at the third time of asking with the young Dons running out 6-0 winners.

The young reds took an early lead through captain Chris Maguire and then there were further goals in the first half from Willie John Kiely, Neil McVitie and Andrew Bagshaw. The 4-0 lead at half time allowed manager Neil Cooper to rest a couple of players with Chris Maguire, Stuart Smith and Neil McVitie all being replaced as there is a reserve game against Motherwell on Tuesday. Despite that Aberdeen continued to dominate and Willie John grabbed two more goals to complete his hat-trick. The score line could have been ever greater as Maguire and Bagshaw both hit the woodwork and Neil McVitie had a goal disallowed.

After the match Neil Cooper spoke with RedWeb and as well as being pleased at finally getting the game played he was delighted with the performance "We had them watched and we knew they were a young side, so we were expected to win comfortably. This is awkward as you are in a no win situation but the attitude from the boys was first class, just what I was looking for. Right from the start we were very professional and it was good to get the early goals."

In the next round of the cup Aberdeen have been drawn at home to Dunfermline.
