Young Dons hold Gers at Murray Park

Aberdeen's youth team this afternoon had a creditable draw with Rangers at Murray Park. However the young reds will be slightly disappointed not to have taken all three points as they were two goals up. Aberdeen opened the scoring on 40 minutes. John Bruce setting up Willie John Keily and the Irish striker made it 2 on the stroke of half time after fine play by McInnes (44 mins)

Crucially however they could not take the two goal lead into the interval as Lennon scored for Rangers with the last touch of the half.

In the second period Rangers took the game to Aberdeen and had a number of great chances to equalise but failed to take them. Rangers did finally get on level terms with an own goal from the unfortunate Martin Skinner (70 mins)

The young Dons held on for a draw and although it was not the best performance of the season it was a decent result.

Neil Cooper will have been delighted that Mark Thomas came through his first 90 minutes for 2 months. The young defender, who has been very impressive this season, was making his first start since being injured against Motherwell in September.

Andrew Bagshaw missed today's game due to injury.
