dons back to winning ways

Scotland star Russell Anderson failed to recover from the leg knock that kept him out of Scotland's game in Moldova. There was good news however as Chris Clark has fully recovered from injury and Jimmy Calderwood put him straight back into the side. The manager stuck with the 4-4-2 formation that he has been using most of the season. Markus Heikkinen went into the centre of defence to partner Phil McGuire with Clark going on the left hand side of midfield. Darren Mackie and Derek Adams form the latest strike partnership as Steven Craig drops to the bench.

As well as having to deal with getting used to the away dressing room, the heavy overnight rain has left the pitch very wet. Referee Ian Brines only passed the pitch playable at 2.00pm.

Inverness line up with former Dons Stuart McCaffrey, Russell Duncan and Bryan Prunty in their side. In the absence of Anderson, Scott Severin has been handed the captains armband.

Aberdeen kicked off and forced the play early on by winning two corners. The second brought a chance for Markus Heikkinen but the Finnish midfielder miss kicked. Eventually the chance was lost as Adams shoot well wide.

After 3 minutes Inverness win their first corner of the match but Preece comes out and catches the ball cleanly. A minute later superb defending from McGuire who has to deal with a very dangerous cross from the right but manages to clear the ball to safety.

The game continues to go from end to end. Foster does well to set up Tosh but his shot is blocked and Severin then blasts widely over. Inverness started to put the make shift Dons defence under some pressure. The defence are not helped by the conditions in their own goal mouth as it is very wet.

On 13 minutes Aberdeen have a strong penalty claim. Hart does well on the right and plays a great one two with Tosh. His low cross is missed by Mackie but the striker seemed to be held back by Grant Munro. To be fair to the referee there was little protest from the Dons striker. A minute later the best chance of the game so far fell to Aberdeen. Adams controlled the ball well and crossed into the box. The ball is flicked on by Mackie but Tosh from 8 yards out sticks it over the bar. Aberdeen win their third corner of the game after 18 mins but it comes to nothing.

On the 20 minute mark, Mark Brown produced a quite brilliant save. Severin played a through ball to Mackie who finds his strike partner with a cross. But from point blank range Brown some how turned his header over the bar.

Minutes later Severin tried to beat the keeper this time, but his long range effort is well handled by the Inverness number one.

28 minutes played and Aberdeen take a deserved lead. Mackie does well on the left and plays the ball back to Chris Clark. The winger finds Adams in the box, and just when there seemed nothing on, the ex-Motherwell player turned Tokely brilliantly before beating Brown from close range.

Minutes later Inverness almost equalise. Golabek hits a stunning left footed free-kick low past the wall. Preece does brilliantly to touch the ball past the post. However on 35 minutes Inverness are level, a long high ball into the box is headed clear by Hart but the ball falls to McBain. The Inverness player, who is not closed down, takes a few strides forward before unleashing a superb low shot, which goes in off Preece's left hand post.

The second half starts with the rain continuing to pour down and Inverness in the ascendancy. Their first corner of the second half causes mayhem in the Dons defence as the ball holds up in the wind and almost goes straight in, but Preece just manages to keep the ball from going over the line.

Then Richie Hart finds space in the middle of the park and hits a good shot towards goal but Preece's handling is good in the difficult conditions. 55 minutes gone and Aberdeen are slowly getting themselves back into the game. Hart does well as he bursts forward, the ball breaks to Tosh but his shot is well wide.

Against the run of play Aberdeen regained the lead (63 mins). A long hopefully ball by Adams is chased by Darren Mackie. The strikers pace allows him to get to the ball just before Brown. As the keeper dives for the ball he brings down Mackie. Referee Brines has no hesitation pointing to the spot and booking Brown.

Derek Adams coolly steps up and places the ball to left corner of the goal giving Brown no chance.

On 66 minutes Clark is substituted and replaced by Craig. The midfielder did well on his return but started to tire, which was not unexpected, especially considering the heavy conditions. Four minutes later Inverness make their first substitution with ex Don Prunty being replaced by Juanjo. The Scotland U21 striker looked disappointed as he would have been hoping to do better against his former team but to be fair, he had received little service all afternoon. Heikkinen also did very well against him.

With 89 minutes gone Preece played a quick ball forward and as Tokely stumbled, Mackie pounced. As the striker went into the box he was hauled down by Golabek to win his second penalty of the afternoon. Mackie himself stepped up to put the penalty away and grab a deserved goal for his afternoons work.
