Young guns show the way

The Dons under 21 side continued their recent good run with a single goal victory over an experienced Partick side at Firhill in which youngster John Stewart, fresh from his top team debut yesterday, scored the game's only goal early in the second half.

Following a barren opening period, the visitors took the lead two minutes after the restart. Richard Buckley played the ball through to Duncan Jones, whose cross was met perfectly by STEWART who headed home.

The Dons scorned a chance to double their advantage when Jones was brought down inside the box with fifteen minutes remaining. Bryan Prunty took the resultant spot kick but, in an echo of proceedings last night, saw his effort saved by keeper Steven Pinkowski.

Jones then enjoyed a mazy run, beating four defenders before seeing his shot blocked by Pinkowski and shortly afterwards Fergus Tiernan was also thwarted by the keeper when clean through.

Manager Neil Cooper commented. "I was really pleased with the way the lads played as we had a particularly youthful team out there. We passed the ball about confidently, especially in the second half, and with a wee bit of luck, could have won by two or three goals."
