Aberdeen lost the chance to defeat Rangers at Pittodrie, despite making an excellent comeback in the first half. Rangers took the lead after 10 minutes, when Sergio Porrini found himself with a free header, which he despatched past Leighton.

One minute later, Rod Wallace snatched his 20th goal of the season, to put Rangers into a 2-0 lead, and at that stage, it looked as if Rangers could go on tho get 4 or 5.

However, on 33 minutes, Mike Newell pulled one back for the Dons, when he struck with a superb diving header. The goal from the on-form striker brought his side back into the game.

By half-time, the Dons were playing reasonably well despite the early loss of two goals.

1 minute into the second half, new signing Andreas Mayer hit the bar, Highlighting his awesome shooting ability.

5 minutes, into the half, and Eoin Jess scored the goal of the game, with a scorcher into the top hand corner of Stefan Klos's net. The home side looked good, and on course to pick up at least one point.

Aberdeen's hopes were further increased when Rangers young defender Scott Wilson was sent off for a late challange.

However, the Dons hopes were dashed, 5 minutes from time, when Andrei Kanchelskis was brougth down in the penalty area, and Rangers were awarded a penalty. Jorg Albertz made no mistake from the spot, and Rangers were 3-2 in the lead.

Andrei Kanchelskis scored a controversial fourth goal for the visitors on 90 minutes, despite the home side's pleas that he was offside, to secure all 3 points for Rangers.
