Hinds the hat trick hero

Aberdeen grabbed the lead in the 28th minute through Leigh Hinds. With the Elgin defence looking for an offside decision that never came, McQuilken set up Hinds and the forward calmly rounded the keeper before rolling the ball into the back of the net. Aberdeen should have extended their lead in the 39th minute when they were awarded a spot kick.

Once again it was good work by McQuilken that set up the chance before Clark was brought down in the penalty area. However the keeper made a great save from a well struck Sheerin effort. The Dons were punished for the miss three minutes later when Hunter grabbed an equaliser on the break. Aberdeen had the better of the first half, but the home side were well up for this match.

The Dons were on top at the start of the second half only to be denied the lead by the woodwork. Paul Sheerin hit the post on the hour mark as he attempted to convert a Clark corner and six minutes later Anderson smacked a Sheerin corner on to the cross bar. The pressure eventually paid off in the 72nd minute when Sheerin went on a positive run before releasing McQuilken. His cross found Hinds in the danger area and he grabbed his second goal of the evening as he slammed the ball in off the post from close range.

Hinds capped a fine performance when he claimed his hat trick in the 88th minute heading a Clark cross past the keeper to give the Dons a deserved victory in a game they dominated.
