Aberdeen 4 - 0 Dundee United

Aberdeen looked impressive as they swept United away in front of a 13,612 crowd. Two goals by Derek Young and a debut strike from Leon Mike added to Robbie Winter's opener to give the Dons a comfortable victory. With St. Johnstone beating Livingston and Hearts and Killie drawing it was a perfect day for the Dons' top six security as well as their European ambitions.
Aberdeen made a sensational start to the match when they took the lead in 90 seconds. Mackie's pace took him into the box on the right hand side. He unleashed a shot, which Gallacher fumbled badly and Winters was first to react as he fired the ball into the net for a dream start. The Dons continued to hold the upper hand and all United had to show was a weak shot by Venetis in the 5th minute that was easily gathered by Kjaer. The Dons then went further ahead in the 9th minute and once more it was Mackie that started the move wide right. Griffin attempted to clear his cross, but only succeded in ballooning the ball into the air. Winters then knocked it to the far post where Derek Young hit a sweet left foot volley into the net.

The Dons almost grabbed a third in the 15th minute when Dadi collected the ball wide left and delivered an inch perfect pass to Derek Young in the centre. The striker could only head tamely and the keeper gathered easily. In the 19th minute Fullarton collected the first yellow card of the match for persistent fouling. From the subsequent free kick Winters cross found McGuire at the far post, but Gallacher was able to deny him his second goal in as many weeks. United were beginning to settle after their torrid start, but a weak Thompson header in the 27th minute was the closest they got to opening their account.

There were loud appeals for a penalty in the 35th minute when Bisconti went down in the box. Rowbotham waived play on and Gallacher was quickly off his line to deny Mackie. In the 41st minute Dadi had an opportunity from 15 yards, but close attention from the United defence was enough to put the big striker off. Thompson had United's best chance of the half in the closing seconds when Easton set up Thomson. The player turned his defender, but Kjaer ensured the Dons maintained their two goal advantage.

Within three minutes of the start Aberdeen killed the match when Derek Young added a third. The move started on the half way line when Guntveit slipped the ball through to Mackie. Derek Young met his long diagonal ball in the centre and he beat McCunnie to tap the ball home. The Dons went close again two minutes later when Mackie unleashed a powerful drive from 25 yards, which Gallacher scrambled round the post. From the resulting corner, Winters delivered a deep cross, which Guntveit hammered low towards goal. Fortunately for the visitors Fullarton was on hand to clear the ball off the goal line.

Dons new signing Leon Mike made his debut when he replaced Dadi in the 62nd minute. The Englishman was quick to get involved and could have had his first goal in the 66th minute. Following a corner, the ball fell into his path on the six yard box but his strike went over the bar denying him a dream start. United went close in the 70th minute when Carson tried to curl the ball into Kjaer's top corner. Nothing was going right for the visitors however and the ball went inches past the post.

Mike did get on the score sheet in the 82nd minute as the Dons obvious superiority showed. Winters made a break down the left and his cutback found the new signing in acres of space as he drilled the ball home from 12 yards. United tried to salvage some pride from the match and Derek Young was forced to clear off his line in the 83rd minute and two minutes later Cocozza headed straight at Kjaer. At the end of the day though this was a comfortable win for the Dons who looked impressive going forward.
