Aberdeen shook Hearts in less than 30 seconds. Centre-half Young passed to Leggat. The Dons' winger cut through the Hearts' defence, parted to Wishart, and accepted the inside man?s return pass to beat Duff with a great drive. In six minutes Aberdeen were two up. Yorston sent Boyd away, and the left winger raced down the centre to net from close in.
Young was prominent in the Hearts' attack, and from one of his crosses Mitchell headed over the bar for a corner. Play was held up when McKenzie got a knock on the thigh and had to be treated on the field. An opportunist drive by Glen scraped the crossbar.
Aberdeen had a narrow escape when Murray deprived Glen in a tackle. As the inside man was about to shoot Martin threw himself at his feet to prevent a score. Young was unlucky to see his header from a Cumming free go over the bar. Wishart should have put Aberdeen further ahead, but ini trying to place the ball he sent wide.
Duff brought off a fine save from Boyd before Aberdeen scored their third goal in 40 minutes. Caldwell took the ball up the wing, and Allan was lying handy in the centre, and Leggat stuck out a foot to prod the back's cross past Duff.

Hearts rearranged their inside trio when the teams lined up again. Murray was at centre, Conn at inside right and Whittle inside left. A fine drive by Leggat was turned round the post by Duff. Young, who was outstanding in the Hearts' attack, beat Caldwell nicely, but from his cross Conn sent the ball wide.
Hearts were pressing hard in an effort to reduce the leeway, and Martin did well to push out a smart header by Murray.
Aberdeen attacked again, and a try by Yorston went high, and then a low drive by Leggat was stopped by Glidden. Aberdeen forced two successive corners before Mackay cleared the danger. Crawford reduced the leeway in 22 minutes. Leggat scored Aberdeen's fourth and his own hat-trick in 35 minutes.

Verdict: A deserved win by Aberdeen with full marks to Martin and Leggat. Hearts never really recovered from the Dons' early double blow.
