Dons Must Find The Answer Before Next Season
Unless Aberdeen F.C. are successful in their search for talent the outlook for next season will be more than a trifle grim.
A mediocre display by a mediocre team, best sums up the Dons' form at Greenock. There was not really an outstanding performer in the Aberdeen ranks.
George Samuel, who was given a run at right half, found the pace too hot in the first half, although be showed improvement after the interval. It was the former Broxburn Athletic player’s second appearance the League side.
THE Pittodrie club’s record this season is not impressive. Even if they win their remaining fixtures against Celtic and Rangers - and on recent form this does not seem any too probable an eventuality - they can do no better than claim thirty points out of a possible sixty.
Team weaknesses were obvious once again at Greenock, and until these are remedied the Dons will simply be “just another 'A' Division side.”
Nobody will deny that ready made players are difficult to secure, nor can it be denied that players of the right type cannot be picked up cheaply.
IF they do not possess the reserves to fill the bill Aberdeen seem to have no alternative but to go into the market. The Pittodrie club has until August to find the solution.
The Dons are due at Parkhead this week. Celts’ victory over East Fife has practically assured them their place in "A" Division, as they seem likely to finish with a better goal average than St Mirren.
The stuggle for survival has developed into a three-cornered fight between Third Lanark, Morton and Airdrie, with St Mirren standing on the sidelines.
AIRDRIE'S remaining fixtures are against East Fife and Motherwell at Broomfield. Morton have to face two of the cup semi-finalists - Dundee at Dens Park and Motherwell at Greenock.
Third Lanark complete their programme with home fixtures against Hearts, Celtic and Rangers and a visit to Dens Park. It is still anybody's guess who will accompany Stirling Albion to "B" Division.
Incidentally, Aberdeen’s final League game against Rangers at Pittodrie has been fixed for Saturday, April 19, Cup final day.
Only one of the home and home matches between Aberdeen and Rangers reserves in the Scottish Second XI Cup competition has so far been arranged. The Young Dons will travel to Ibrox on Monday, April 14, the Glasgow Spring holiday.
