This was a self-inflicted defeat with Emery conceding two penalty kicks and McKenna scoring an own goal.

IT won’t be a happy New Tear for the Dons unless the defence can put up a more effective resistance than they did Celtic.
Emery and McKenna were in trouble from the start against Tully and Collins. Too often they had to send an SOS for assistance. Forwards, as well as half-backs, had to answer the call.
Penalty-awards against Emery led to the first two Celtic goals and McKenna scored their third.

PERHAPS the right back was a bit unlucky to be saddled with the loss of the spot kicks. When the first was awarded Tully and Emery were only a yard or two apart, and it looked as likely that the Parkhead winger sent the ball against Emery as it did that the back played it intentionally.
It was claimed that when Emery stopped that shot of Peacock's on the goal line he breasted the ball down, but evidently the referee did not take this view.
It must be admitted, however, that the Dons got a break when Evans brought Hamilton down in the closing stages, and the official gave a spot kick.
THE Dons start 1952 against Dundee at Dens Park. The Dark Blues, after an anxious spell, seem to have turned the corner.
A victory over Aberdeen would add the final ingredient to the Dundee tonic. Late goals by Flavell and Steel saw them through at Cathkin. but they don't appear to have been particularly impressive in attack.
A win for the Dons would provide a satisfactory apology for Saturday's failure. Any victory plan Aberdeen F.C. evolve must necessarily include a more effective system of defence.

THERE were surprises in Saturday's games and tomorrow's "derby" matches are quite as liable to produce shock results.
The sparks should fly at Easter Road. Hibs and Hearts have the most mobile and most efficient scoring machines in the Scottish League. There should be an abundance of fast and clever soccer. Hearts usually do well at Easter Road and I won’t be surprised if they take a point.
Ranger are gradually creeping up the League table. They can strike a vital blow in their championship bid by beating Celtic at Parkhead.
I thought Celtic deserved their win at Pittodrie, but their forwards will have to show more enterprise and shooting power than they did against Aberdeen if they are to beat Rangers.
