Clyde 3 - 2 Aberdeen

About 8000 spectators were present at Shawfield Park, Glasgow, where Clyde got two points out of their game with Aberdeen. A very hard game was seen throughout, and in the end the home side just deserved their victory. It was seldom that combined play was seen, the fine tackling of both sets of defenders never giving the forwards time for studied play. At the outset Clyde did most of the pressing, but the Aberdeen forwards with practically their first visit to Fraser, took the lead, Yorston, following a corner kick, getting the ball into the net. Clyde's equaliser came along after twenty five minutes' play, Young heading into the net from a cross by Jessiman. Eight minutes later Jessiman was again in evidence, and his work led to Wallace putting Clyde on the lead. Clyde impressed at the start of the second half, Young and Wallace coming near the mark with fine tries. Then the Aberdeen forwards got away, Yorston and Love, who had been very nippy throughout, forcing a corner off Fraser. The kick was well taken by Love, and Yorston, from amidst a crowd of players, toughed the ball into the net. From that point to the end Clyde were the likelier lot, and Jessiman, who had been idle for a long time, sent the ball across for Young to beat McSevich. Both sides were strong in defence, and Yorston, Love, and Jessiman were outstanding in front.

Beaten by 3 goals to 2 Clyde at Shawfield. Aberdeen were unfortunate not to divide the points. It was a splendidly contested game, with Clyde the better team in the first half, and deserving of their interval lead of 2-1, but in the second period, Aberdeen were more frequently attacking, and but for the grand defence put up by the Shawfield rear divisions would probably have won. There were about 6000 spectators. Throughout, Aberdeen had the better moving and better combining attack, but they did not have a forward to compare with G. T. R. Jessiman, the amateur internationalist, who practically won the game for Clyde, and was responsible for the movements that led to all three goals for the winners. Although pierced three times, the Aberdeen rear defence was steadier than in previous games. McDermid at centre-half made his best appearance in that position, and was the best half-back on the field, Yorston, who got both goals for Aberdeen, was best, but individually the others were not so good as usual, and Smith on the left wing was neglected. Clyde were splendidly served by McGuire and Blair at back and Gibson at centre-half, while Young was the next best forward to G. T. R. Jessiman.

ABERDEEN SCORE FIRST.

With wind and sun behind them, Clyde attacked at the opening, and following a corner kick by Young McSevich fisted clear. Bruce raised the siege for Aberdeen, but twice lost the ball after making ground, and subsequently the home forwards had a fierce onslaught on the Aberdeen goal. Borland and Young both shot wide, and dour work by Jackson, Ritchie, and McDermid prevented many shots from being realised. After eight minutes' play, Love let Cheyne away, the latter ran on to force a corner. The ball was well placed by Love, and Yorston ran in to shoot low into the net. Clyde renewed their attack after this, and McSevich fisted away from Jessiman with Wallace in attendance, and later the Clyde centre forward lost a fine chance of equalising when he failed to gather a pass by Jessiman. Aberdeen later shook off the attack, and Bruce rounded off clever combination with Yorston by sending in a terrific shot which Fraser tipped over the bar, and following the corner kick Stirling on the goal-line blocked a header from Cheyne. Jessiman, on the Clyde left, again came into prominence, and a fine clearance by McDermid prevented a score after the amateur had centred. In another Clyde attack, McSevich at full stretch tipped a ball from Hood round the post, and following the flag kick Gibson headed wide. At the other end Smith forced a corner, and there was a scrimmage until Blair cleared. Clyde equalised after 35 minutes, when, following a free kick against Ritchie, Jessiman returned the ball for Young to head into the net. For a time after this the Aberdeen defence had a gruelling experience, and in a hot attack Jackson just missed his own goal from a miskick. After McSevich had saved from Borland and Young, a second goal fell to Clyde a few minutes from the interval. Jessiman worked through to the centre and shot, the ball being blocked by McDermid and rebounding to Young. Jessiman thereupon ran to outside right, and taking a pass from Young, centred for Wallace to head past McSevich. Following this Aberdeen again took up the attack. Bruce and Yorston both shot high, and close on the interval Yorston from favourable position just missed the goal with ground shot.

GOAL FOR EACH.

Following on the resumption, Love had a fine centre which Yorston and Bruce both failed to reach, but Aberdeen were forced back on the defensive and McSevich brought off a wonderful save of a shot at point blank range by Wallace. Play continued at a telling pace, both defences being kept on the stretch. Blair cleared when Yorston was about to shoot, and at the other end Love volleyed over the bar. Another fierce attack by Clyde was nullified when McSevich stopped a hard shot by Young. After smart combination with Yorston, Love had a shot turned round the post by Fraser, and following the flag kick, Yorston got among the crowd of players to shoot home the equaliser. Shortly afterwards Cheyne dropped a long shot just in rear of the Clyde goal, and at the other end Young, Jessiman, and Borland all shot wide after fast play. The Aberdeen forwards were showing clever footwork, but they got few chances of shooting, and for ten minutes attacked without Fraser having to handle. Clyde rallied again, and McSevich saved from Wallace's head and at the other end Love let Yorston through, but Fraser ran out and grabbed the ball while the centre forward fell over him. Just when Aberdeen looked like taking the lead they fell into arrears. Jessiman beat Jackson and squared hard for Young to run in and crash the ball into the net. This happened ten minutes from the close, and from then until the end Aberdeen made determined but futile onslaughts on the Clyde goal. Several corners fell to Aberdeen, and a shot by Yorston missed the mark, but time arrived with Clyde retaining their slender lead.
