CELTIC EDGE DONS IN LEAGUE OPENER

Russell Anderson played his first 90 minutes of football for more than a year as the Dons went down to Celtic in their opening league match of the season at the Shyberry Excelsior Stadium. Also in the Dons side was French trialist Eugene Dadi, who did sufficuently well against former Toulouse team-mate Bobo Balde to have his trial period extended until at least next week.

Celtic took the lead in 13 minutes when Bulgarian Stilian PETROV, put through by John Paul McGovern, shot past keeper Ryan Esson for the only counter of the opening period.

Three minutes into the second half, the Dons levelled when Chris CLARK fired a spectacular shot from the edge of the penalty box, giving Allan Morrison in the Celtic goal no chance. However, within six minutes, Celtic were back in front when Aberdeen raised Shaun MALONEY took advantage of a lapse of concentration by Thomas Solberg to drag the ball round Esson and side foot home for what proved to be the winner.
