Aberdeen

Easy Winners By 7 Clear Goals

Aberdeen A were in merry mood when they entertained the Falkirk reserves on Saturday, and ran out as easy winners as the score of seven goals to nil would suggest. The Young Dons held the upper hand throughout, claiming at least 90 per cent, of the play. Had it not been that the forwards tried to walk the ball home rather than shoot first-time the score would have gone into double figures.

There was no weak link in the Young Dons' formation. Each department played splendidly, while the players did well both collectively and individually.
Most credit goes to Ritchie Smith, the Young Dons' inside-right, who earned round after round of applause for his clever, speedy play. On many occasions he ran with the ball at his toe practically half the length of the field, easily outwitting the defence. He combined well with his right-wing partner, Beynon, who was being tried out for the first time since he received leg injury at Tynecastle.
Currer, Aberdeen's latest capture from South Africa, made his home debut. He was given a splendid reception. Although a little slow - the heavy state of the ground, of course, made conditions difficult for him - he showed good promise. His accurate passing was delightful.
In an over-worked Falkirk side. Smith in goal was one of the outstanding performers. He dealt with balls from all angles, and was in no way to blame for his side's heavy defeat. Indeed it was partly due to his efforts that the scoring was kept down.
Another of the visitors who took the eye was Reid, the former Aberdeen reserve, who performed quite well at left-half.
An indication of the one-sidedness of the play is given by the fact that Johnstone, the home 'keeper, did not handle the ball more than half a dozen times, and had only one goal-kick.
The Young Dons' scorers were: Scott (4) (one penalty), Lang, Beynon and Smith.
