Bright Display At Pittodrie

Young Dons Victorious by 6-2

A bright display was the result of the meeting between Aberdeen "A" and Partick Thistle "A' at Pittodrie Park on Saturday, when the Young Dons secured their third Alliance victory of the season by six goals to two.

The score by no means flatters the victors, who were on top right from the start, and never lost their grip of the game. They showed plenty of dash and cleverness throughout, and understanding which was lacking on the visiting side. Their finishing, too, was the more decisive, and with a less capable 'keeper than McNair more goals might have been registered.
The debut of Taylor, the Hall, Russell's junior, at centre for the Young Dons was watched with considerable interest. That he did not fail to impress was evidenced by his scoring three snappy goals, besides distributing play with coolness and judgment. He fitted in nicely with the scheme of things, and knows where the goal lies.

No Weaklings

It must be said, however, that all the side played well, there being no weaklings. Their positional play was pretty to watch, but a little less elaboration would have proved more effective.
Johnstone was as usual safe in goal, and had several smart saves towards the finish, when the Partick boys were striving hard to reduce the arrears. Both backs were strong, with Temple the more prominent, but Urquhart did well considering he had the nippiest wing to contend with.
The halves proved a strong trio, and never allowed the opposing forwards much latitude. They also kept their own forwards well supplied, but the ground passing could have been improved upon.
All the front rank worked hard throughout, Warnock, at outside-right, always being in the limelight. He was ably backed by Brown, while on the left wing Black and Ritchie Smith did many clever things. Taylor has already been mentioned.

Partick, although defeated such a large margin, were by no means a weak side. Their outfield play was good, but they failed to clinch matters at close quarters.
McNair was alert in goal, and could not have saved any of the shots that beat him. Allan and Stewart put up a stiff defence, and had a hard afternoon's work keeping out the fast and nippy Young Dons.
Swan was clever at right half, as also was Wilson, a pivot who proved himself a tireless defender.
The forwards showed spasms of good play, the strongest part being the right wing, where Campbell and Hinchliffe were a most dangerous pair and took some holding, the others being only fair.

Home Side Soon Ahead

After the visitors had opened the attack, the home side came away strongly, and were soon one up. Devine placed a free-kick finely, and Taylor, getting his head on the ball, put it nicely out of McNair's reach. Shortly after Warnock again found the net with a strong shot. Fine passing between Devine and Warnock led to a third goal, the latter parting to Taylor, who rounded the backs to score neatly. Before half-time the visitors opened their account through Hinchliffe, who netted with a rocket shot.
The second period was not many minutes old when Smith put the Young Dong further ahead, following good work by Warnock. This was added to shortly after by another good goal from Taylor, who thus completed his hat-trick. Slackness in the home defence let Watson through to get a second point for the visitors, but before the end Brown put on a sixth, and this finished the scoring in a fine, clean, and sporting game.
