'Keeper Takes Credit for Young Dons' Victory.
Magnificent play by Cumming in goal was a feature of the Alliance League fixture at Fir Park, where Aberdeen "A" scored a fine victory over Motherwell "A." Play was even in the first half, both goals being attacked in turn, but the respective defences held out in fine style, and, the interval arrived with the score sheet blank. For thirty minutes in the second period Motherwell, with the wind in their favour, kept play confined to the Young Dons' territory, and Cumming was repeatedly in action, and time and again he saved when all seemed lost. After half an hour the visitors attacked, and Armstrong scored a simple goal. The Port-Glasgow boy should have added a second shortly afterwards, but he held on to the ball too long. The Motherwell colts were roused by this reverse, and until the end Cumming's goal underwent a continual bombardment, but the 'keeper refused to be beaten. The homesters forced three corners in quick succession just before the final whistle, but with no result. Best for Aberdeen "A" were Cumming, Gavin, Anderson, and Armstrong, and for Motherwell "A," Sinclair, Carlyle, Crawley, and C. Johnstone.Source: Press & Journal, 16th April 1934
