Keith's Plucky Display at Pittodrie.
In the first match of the Aberdeenshire County Cup home-and-home final at Pittodrie Keith did well to finish only two goals behind. Aberdeen missed many chances in both periods of a game which never touched great heights. Leading at the interval by three goals, two by Adam and one by Westland, the homesters seemed well set for a big score, even though they had the sun in front of them after the cross-over, but the shooting of the forwards was poor indeed. No doubt heartened by their numerous narrow escapes, the Highland Leaguers had a number of spirited runs. With practically the last kick of the game Cowie, their outside-right, reduced the arrears. While it is true that on occasions the Keith goal bore a charmed existence, the plucky display of their defenders - Muldownie in goal was positively brilliant - cannot be detracted from.Chance Goes Abegging.
If Keith had equalised when a goal down, as they should have done through Scott, they might have given the Dons an even closer race. Watson was best in the visitors' hard-working mid-line, while forward Cowie, Penrose, and Edwards threatened most danger. The home defence wag as steady as usual, and the half-backs, too, seldom let-up, but the attack was frankly disappointing. Adam and Westland were the most consistent triers, one or two shots by the latter being first-class efforts. Aberdeen will have to be on their best behaviour in the return game Kynoch Park.Source: Press & Journal, 9th April 1934
