Partick's Cup Hopes Blasted At Pittodrie

Aberdeen A are making history where the first team failed. On Saturday at Pittodrie they entered the semi-final of Scottish Second XI Cup competition by beating Partick Thistle A by three goals to two.<.br> The Pittodrie reserves had to fight every inch of the way, but were the better balanced side and fully deserved their win.
Thistle commenced in convincing style, and Jenkins and Death had shots.
From this period onwards, however, Aberdeen held the advantage.
The Firhill defence stood up manfully to the determined onslaughts of the Aberdeen forwards. Kenny in goal appeared to be unbeatable. He saved repeatedly from Dickie and David, the home teams' only real marksmen, although all the other forwards had tries.
Except for an occasional raid, Thistle were confined to their own penalty box, and numerous were the escapes their goal ran. They defied Aberdeen until the interval.
Aberdeen resumed where they had left off, and with ten minutes gone took the lead. A very clever movement by Falloon and Merrie resulted in David opening the scoring.
The home side kept hammering away, but they got a shock when in a Partick breakaway Jenkins equalised.
An immediate reply by Aberdeen saw Merrie head home a free kick by Falloon, and shortly afterwards David secured a third. In a final raid McGillivray netted Partick Thistle?s second goal.
