Keith Put Up Good Show

ABERDEENSHIRE CUP FINAL

Before a large crowd at Kynoch Park last night Aberdeen defeated Keith by seven goals to none in the second of the Aberdeenshire Cup home-and-home finals, to qualify for the Dewar Shield competition.

Aberdeen made the running in the opening minutes, and were awarded a penalty, which Smith sent into the keeper's hands from the spot.
Keith came into the picture and had the visiting defence in difficulties, but the Aberdeen lines were ultimately cleared. Aberdeen forced a fruitless corner and then were awarded a free kick which jeopardised the home goal, but the Keith defence cleared. Offside spoiled another Aberdeen chance.
Johnstone had to look lively to tip a hot drive from Logie over the bar when Keith took up the attack. The same player came within an ace of scoring but at the crucial moment was hustled off the ball.
Smith raced up the wing and sent a shot over the bar, and at the other end Cowie tested Johnstone. Play ranged from end to end, with neither team able to established an advantage.
Both goals had narrow escapes, but it was hardly accordance with the run of play when, a few minutes before half-time, Aberdeen went ahead. Smith heading in off a Brown cross. But that was not the end of the surprises. The ball had hardly been centred when Smith again got possession and, racing up the wing, gave Muldownie no chance with a great drive.
On crossing over Aberdeen were rampant, and Scott soon had the third. Then Brown scored the best goal of the match.
Up to this point Keith had been giving a good account of themselves, but with four goals against them they played with less confidence and Aberdeen with more.
For the remainder of the game Aberdeen predominated. Although the homesters had several good raids into the Aberdeen territory the visitors added three more goals through Warnock, Black and Scott, bringing their total to seven. However, it was a much move even game than the score would suggest.
