03/05/1915 | KO:

A benefit football match between the Aberdeen team and a Garrison Select team was played at Pittodrie Park yesterday by way of a holiday attraction. There was a fair attendance, especially of soldiers, it being a military holiday, and the proceeds were to go to the Belgian and Polish Relief Funds.

Aberdeen won the toss and the Garrison started promisingly, Robb at once becoming prominent with several fine runs up the field. Indeed all interest was attached to the game from a Garrison point of view, until Aberdeen were awarded a penalty, when Sergeant Burnett was easily beaten by Duffus. Shortly before half-time the Garrison scored through Perry from a penalty.

Much excitement prevailed through the second half, and within about a quarter of an hour from the resumption goals came in quick succession, first Aberdeen scoring, then the Garrison, and then Aberdeen making the score 3-2. Aberdeen pressed hard, but Burnett was always there. The game became fast, each end being visited in turn.

The Gordon Highlanders pipe and brass bands were in attendance, and played patriotic and other airs.
