11/02/1905 | KO:

Aberdeen played Saint Johnstone at Perth. Teams:-

Saint Johnstone: Douglas; Denholm, Buchan; Arnott, Imrie, Brown; Bell, Duff, Gardiner (Tulloch), Cameron,Hynd.
Aberdeen: Barrett; Willox, Brebner; Low, Thompson, Robertson; Knowles, Harvey, G. McNicol, Cruikshank, Jaffrey.
Referee - Mr. Macarthur, Stirling.

A magnificent punt by Buchan, clever crossing work by Hynd, and repeated muddling by Gardiner were the opening features of the play. The game was fast from the very outset, but the Saints in the opening stages were very hard beset, and only miraculous saving on the part of Douglas, who fisted, kicked, and even scraped the ball away, saved the homesters from disaster. It was indeed a wonderful escape, but even after this the Saints continued to be kept on the defensive. Bell got away on the right, but Hynd, who caught the rebound from Willox, spoiled a clever piece of work by shooting wildly. Harvey, for Aberdeen, made a similar blunder scarce a minute later. Willox on one occasion very nearly muddled matters. He was sorely pressed by Hynd, and he passed back straight to his own goal. G. McNicol had the credit of notching the initial goal. Jaffrey, thanks to a blunder by Brown, managed to cross well, and McNicol, running in, had no difficulty in converting. Douglas could not be blamed for the point.

Barrett had a lively time immediately on the resumption. Quite a number of shots were sent in, but the old Dundee player was in one of his confident moods, and saved with brilliancy. Hynd, shortly after this, came within an ace of heading in the like full shot from Bell - only the post came in the way. The saints in this. For more than holding their own, and only on a few occasions but the Aberdonians get away. Hynd scored for the saints on time.

The gate amounted to £7.
