Dons youngsters met up with international keeper Billy Thompson when Dundee United visited Pittodrie last week hoping to extend their run of wins against Aberdeen to three.
Apart from an early chance for the visitors though, the Dons were well in control particularly in midfield through Porteous, Bell and Angus. And it was Ian Porteous who broke the deadlock in the 40th minute with a well struck shot that beat Thompson from some way out. Tommy Mclntyre almost added to the lead in the second half when he forced Thompson to make a fine save and with Brian Grant fitting in well in his unusual role at full back, the Dons were well worth their win which made it only two defeats in seven matches.
Porteous almost added a second in injury time when he struck a post.

Last week's switching of the Premier League fixture against Morton to Pittodrie means that Dons reserve game with the Cappielow side was postponed and delayed Steve Gray's comeback. Dons' youngster was earmarked to play in last Saturday's reserve game after several weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.
