Following on the capture of 16 points from nine successive Premier Reserve League games, the young Dons saw 1991 end on a sour note when they went down 4-1 to Celtic at Parkhead.
On this occasion, there could be no complaints about inexperience in the Pittodrie side as Aberdeen had no fewer than eight players with first-team experience on duty for the Celtic Park visit.
Admittedly, seven members of Celtic reserves' starting line-up were in the same category and these inluded Pat Bonner and Gary Gillespie, but losing by that margin was still a disappointing performance.
"Such an experienced side should have done much better," said Aberdeen coach Willie Miller. "It was still pretty tight when the score stood at 1-1 after Hans Gillhaus equalised, but Celtic finished well on top."
