Booth's Goal Puts Young Dons Through

Keeping step with the first team as they look forward to a Scottish Cup semi-final meeting with Dundee United, the Pittodrie reserves have qualified for a similar stage in the Reserve League Cup and now face either Dundee or Arbroath. Against a very experienced St Mirren side including players such as Les Fridge, Fraser Wishart, Frank McGarvey (listed as a trialist), and David Winnie, the young Dons finished worthy 2-1 winners in their home quarter-final tie. They dominated for most of the game, but were a goal down at one stage in the second half, and the goals needed for victory were not easily come by with Fridge playing a hero's role in Saints' goal. It was Graham Watson who capped an excellent midfield performance by putting Aberdeen back on level terms after a build-up involving Ian Cameron and Eoin Jess, and, with only a few minutes to go, Scott Booth avoided the need for extra time when he took advantage of a pass-back attempt by Saints' German trialist defender to lob Fridge for the winner.
