Aberdeen 2 - 3 Hibernian

If Aberdeen "A" were somewhat unlucky to have to bow the knee to the Hibernian Reserves at Pittodrie on Saturday, they nevertheless deserved to lose because of the misguided tactics of their forwards. Instead of playing the same open swinging game as carried their opponents to victory by 3 goals to 2, the front line, particularly the three inside men, persisted in bunching together in the vicinity of goal, thus allowing the opposing defence to concentrate, a procedure which they adopted to very good purpose.
It was hard lines, however, on the home team to be three goals in arrears about five minutes from half-time, as they had had the better of the outfield exchanges. Still, the Hibs had in Barr a more virile and opportunist leader than was Doolan for the "Dons," and the three goals secured by the ex-Queen's Parker were all the result of quick thought and action. The first came to him through a misheaded clearance by Ross, and he gave McSevich no chance from close in. The other two were from crosses by Love, the outside right, and might have been avoided had Forsyth and McHale been policing the centre as assiduously as they did later. Doolan scored within the last five the half, hooking home a neat shot from the left the goal.
It was still Aberdeen's game in the second half, yet the clever combination of the visitors and the quick swinging passes that sometimes spreadeagled the home defence, proved much more dangerous than the close pattern-weaving of the homesters. Carroll raised the home hopes by scoring a second goal in the last few minutes of the game, but Hibs should have added to their total with practically the last shot of the match, Murray skying from about four yards out.
Aberdeen's best were Forsyth, Ross, Love, and Wilson (University), while Hibs owed most to Main, Spence, Love, Barr, and Yorston (Richmond), and Clarkson.
