Peterhead Go Under At Pittodrie

Although the Peterhead team managed to stave off defeat till well on in the second half, there was never any doubt as to the ultimate result of the second round tie in the Aberdeenshire Cup competition at Pittodrie, where the Buchan men were against a stiff hurdle in the Aberdeen A. The latter had rearranged front and middle lines on view, Vic Milne, the newly-capped doctor, figuring at centre-half.
Before the commencement of the game Vic. Was met in the pavilion by Mr. G. S. Falconer, secretary of the Aberdeenshire and District Association, and congratulated on his success in the University medical finals. On behalf of the Association, Mr Falconer said that Dr Milne's honour was not only an honour to himself but to the game of "Soccer," of which he was such a distinguished exponent.
A feature of the game was the appearance of Bobby Hannah, the ex-Aberdeen back, in the Buchan ranks against his old clubmates, and the sturdy defender gave a good account of himself, albeit his somewhat forcible tactics brought him under the ban of the crowd, who were as ready to signify their disapproval as they used to be to laud him when he wore a black and gold jersey. The first half was evenly contested, Peterhead having a good swinging game. There was a lack sting about their finishing efforts, however and Lawrie was seldom in trouble. Hannah nearly scored from a free kick, and Hutchison and Mackay also had good tries. The home front line moved rather disjointedly, but did well to save rockets from Connon, Grant, Lees, and Milne.

In the second half Aberdeen asserted their superiority, and Vic Milne opened the scoring after Peterhead had had a goal disallowed for foul play by Hutchison. Milne's goal was got off a free kick, Buchan failing to get his hands to a swift rising shot. Grant added a second and Mackie a third, and before the finish Stevenson capped good bit of work by Connon and registered a fourth goal. The final result was:- Aberdeen A 4, Peterhead 0.
In a game in which there was little to enthuse over Peterhead were best, served by Hannah, Thomson, Hutchison, and Mackay, while Aberdeen's stalwarts were McBoyle, Milne, Watt, Connon, and Grant.
