Reserves Just Win

Aberdeen A opened their Highland League programme at Pittodrie on Saturday, when the reserves opposed Clachnacuddin from Inverness. Play throughout glaringly lacked finish, and on their performance Aberdeen did not in any way deserve their win by 1-0. The exhibition given by both elevens in the first half was quiet, and in the second portion play continued to be branded and uninteresting. Up for a time the home side did all the pressing, but McKenzie, the visitors' goalkeeper, a quarter of an hour from the finish, however, Aberdeen unexpectedly took the lead, McKenzie failing to get rid in time of a shot from H. Smith. He was charged over the line by two of the Pittodrie players, and despite the protests of Clachnacuddin the referee unhesitatingly awarded the goal. In the last stages of the game Aberdeen improved considerably, but found the northern defence able to deal with the forcing methods used. Aberdeen were by far the best served by Munro at left back, who all along practically saved his team from defeat. The goalkeeper, Barclay, gave a creditable display, while Chatwin, Ross, and Smith were prominent in the other lines. For Clachnacuddin, McKenzie, in goal, West, Ross, and Cameron maintained the burden of the work.
