This Was Not the Same Young Dons

CONTRASTED with their brilliant shooting display on the same ground tnree weeks ago, Aberdeen Reserves' marksmen were rarely on the target at Bayview on Saturday.

Not that the East Fife team showed any all-round improvement. Indeed, the home side again played second fiddle to the young Dons in the matter of outfield craft and combination. But their more direct methods brought goals and victory.
Curran, who had grand saves to his credit, had little chance with the three goals that beat him. Bruce and McKenna were generally on top of the opposition. Thomson too kept a firm grip on the home leader. The wing halves were serviceable rather than showy and could not be faulted for their side's defeat.
Aberdeen had probably the most effective forward afield in young McNeil, their sole marksman. When the young Dons were fighting hard to wipe out a one-goal margin, one attempt by Rodger, which crashed against the bar, deserved a better reward.
Glen and McMillan figured in many combined moves, which somehow never threatened real danger to the home defence. Rodger had an off-day. Robertson, Black and Matthew were best for Bayview.
